Discount grocer Lidl U.S. is expanding its outdoor garden centers to 76 stores in nine states, including five locations in New Jersey.
Scheduled to launch between April 24 and May 28, the concept is coming to Belleville, Glassboro, Park Ridge, Union and Vineland. It features a variety of high-quality flowers, plants, soil, hanging baskets, planters and gardening accessories at low prices.
Lidl introduced its first outdoor garden center at a Long Island, N.Y., store in 2022. Then, the brand brought the offering to several other locations around the state. In addition to New Jersey, the retailer plans to add centers to select stores in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York by late May.
Tammy Roberts, director of purchasing for floral at Lidl U.S., commented, “We are excited to bring the Lidl Garden Center concept to even more customers this year. At Lidl, we are relentlessly focused on quality and freshness at low prices and our Garden Centers are no exception.”
For the rollout, Lidl is working with family-owned growers American Color Inc. in Orange, Va., Gabrielson Farms in Jamesport, N.Y., and van Hoekelen Greenhouses in McAdoo, Pa., to supply plants and flowers.
Roberts said, “We are delighted to work with our incredible partners … to provide our customers with the best plants and flowers for their gardens this spring.”
A 50-year-old German-born brand known for offering high-quality fresh produce, meat, baked goods and household items at low prices, Lidl has more than 12,000 stores worldwide.
Since establishing a U.S. headquarters in 2015, the Arlington, Va.-based chain has launched more than 170 locations across nine East Coast states.
Within New Jersey, Lidl has nearly two dozen stores, including locations in: Morristown, Bergenfield, Park Ridge, Elmwood Park, Weehawken, Belleville, Bayonne, Union, Garwood, Woodbridge, Hazlet, North Brunswick, Cherry Hill, Brick Township and Eatontown.
