Roseland-based law firm Lowenstein Sandler named Michael Caplan as its new chief operating officer.
In a March 25 press release, the firm said Caplan will work with leadership to provide executive oversight of business, financial and administrative operations. He will also focus on building strategic partnerships and leveraging technology to drive “optimal return on investment.”
Caplan brings more than 25 years of experience in the accounting, financial, investment and consulting businesses as well as 15 years of corporate legal experience to the position.
He joins Lowenstein Sandler following a decade as COO of Goodwin Procter, a New York City tech-geared law firm. His background also includes serving as global chief operating officer of Marsh & McLennan Cos.’ Corporate Legal, Risk and Compliance departments and global director of operations for Goldman Sachs’s Legal Department.
Caplan also once ran his own legal operations consulting business. In that venture, he supported general counsels and corporate legal departments in the areas of technology, project management, data management and operations.
Commenting on the hire, Lowenstein Sandler Chair and Managing Partner Gary Wingens said, “Mike has a superlative record in leading organizations towards realizing their fullest potential. He knows how to develop and grow operational relationships with clients and is adept at using the latest technology in ways that maximize efficiency and effectiveness. We are confident that Mike will play an integral role in accelerating Lowenstein’s consistent upward trajectory.”
Caplan stated, “Over the last decade, I have been impressed by Lowenstein’s growth, loyal and growing client base, their people, entrepreneurial spirit, and strategic approach.”
He went on to say, “I look forward to being a part of this dynamic firm and helping it build upon its past successes.”
He fills a vacancy left by Joseph Palmero. After five years at Lowenstein Sandler, Palmero left in July 2023 to take on the chief operating officer position at Crowell & Moring LLP.
