The Garden State saw a decrease of 2,700 jobs in March, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released April 17 by the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development.

The slight dip in March follows a big jump in February – though that figure was revised down from the original estimate of 19,200 jobs to 13,700 in this report.

The state’s rate in March was 4.7% (4.2% nationally).

Last month, just two of the nine private industry sectors recorded gains from February:

  • Education and health services +2,700
  • Other services +1,000

The biggest losses were seen in:

  • Leisure and hospitality -3,600
  • Construction -1,200
  • Professional and business services -1,000

The public sector added 700 jobs.

The labor department notes that over the past year, Garden State payrolls have grown by 33,800 jobs.

The April lands May 15.
