Hilf estate gives record $2.7M to Middlesex College Foundation

The Middlesex College Foundation recently received a historic $2.7 million gift from the estate of . It marks the largest donation in the Foundation’s history — and the second seven-figure gift awarded to the college in recent months.

The contribution will support by expanding scholarships and student resources for programs such as:

  • Nursing
  • Radiography
  • Dental hygiene
  • Medical laboratory technology
  • Respiratory care
  • Other allied health fields

The funds will help establish the Paul Hilf Center for Allied Health Education. The center will provide substantial scholarship assistance and programmatic support to students preparing for careers in health care. College and foundation leaders say the gift will strengthen the college’s ability to meet workforce needs, while also reducing financial barriers for students entering high-demand fields.

“Paul Hilf’s legacy of thoughtful leadership and advocacy continues through his estate’s generous donation,” said President Mark McCormick. “We are profoundly thankful for his longstanding dedication to the College, which will support future health care professionals as they work to improve the lives of members of our community.”

Hilf devoted more than two decades to Middlesex College. Beginning his career there in 1967, he served as chief financial officer from 1973 to 1994. Widely regarded as a behind-the-scenes problem solver, Hilf played a central role in shaping the college’s growth and community presence.

His contributions included:

  • Helping to develop the
  • Acquiring land for the Woodbridge Avenue entrance
  • Negotiating with the Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of the college
  • Hosting the 1991 Cultural Festival of India on the Edison campus, which drew international visitors

The $2.7 million gift follows a $2 million donation earlier this year from the Nayan and Bindu Dalal Family Foundation to renovate and name the Performing Arts Center. The gifts underscore growing philanthropic support for the future of Middlesex College, which is undergoing a number of notable developments and projects.
