Mightylicious, a gluten-free cookie maker based in Woodbridge, is expanding its distribution to include one of the nation’s top retail chains.

The better-for-you snack brand’s line of seven allergen-friendly, soft-baked cookies recently arrived in 231 Walmart stores across the country, joining several other major retailers, like Costco and Whole Foods Market, in carrying Mightylicious.

Founded in 2018 when Carolyn Haeler sought to develop a cookie that was compatible with her celiac disease, Mightylicious products are made using a flour base consisting of white rice flour, brown rice flour and tapioca flour.

Along with being 100% free of gluten, wheat and rye, the soft-baked cookies contain all-natural, non-GMO ingredients and are certified kosher.

The brand’s flavors include Brown Butter Chocolate Chip, Brown Butter Shortbread, Oatmeal Raisin, Double Dutch Chocolate Chip and Salted Peanut Butter. It also offers two vegan options: Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Coconut.

After being diagnosed with celiac disease in 2012, Haeler, a self-described cookier lover, spent years searching for a gluten-free brand that would satisfy her sweet tooth, but was disappointed by what she found.

“That’s when I realized there had to be a better way,” said Haeler, a married mother and member of the LGBTQ community, and one smart cookie herself. “I was determined to create a cookie that was gluten-free, healthy, and above all, irresistibly delicious.”

Since its launch five years ago, Mightylicious has secured distribution partnerships with several leading retailers including Fairway, King’s and Price Chopper. The cookies are also available online.
