Food and Commercial Workers Local Union 1262 leads New Jersey’s labor unions in membership for 2026, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor. The Clifton-based union launched in 1941. It reports 23,957 members in the supermarket retail industry, along with assets of $13.49 million and liabilities of $1.08 million.
Teamsters Local Union 177 of Hillside ranks second, with 13,504 members and assets of $26.51 million. Food and Commercial Workers Local Union 152, based in Egg Harbor Township, also follows with 13,021 members. Meanwhile, United Food & Commercial Workers 56 of Cherry Hill reports 12,687 members.
Rounding out the top five is Food and Commercial Workers Local Union 464 in Little Falls. The union has 11,262 members and assets of $78.66 million — the highest asset total among the top 25 unions on the list.
Communications Workers AFL-CIO locals appear six times in the top 25, representing members in the communications industry across Trenton, Newark, Woodbury Heights and Ewing. Teamsters locals appear four times. Laborers locals shows twice on the ranking, covering general and construction industries.
At the lower end of the top 25, Electrical Workers IBEW AFL-CIO Local Union 94 in East Windsor reports 3,871 members. The union had the smallest total among ranked unions in this list.
