The COVID-19 pandemic put the term “essential business” into common parlance and sparked debate over what types of work falls under that rubric. Child care services surely qualify.

For the latest edition of NJBIZ Conversations, Editor Jeffrey Kanige spoke with Bridget O’Brien, the owner of SuperKids Child Care and Learning Center in Summit and the vice president of Early Childhood Education Advocates. In a recent op-ed for NJBIZ, O’Brien argued that state and federal policy should reflect the child care industry’s status as what she called “critical infrastructure.” She expanded on those thoughts, and talked about universal pre-kindergarten education in the interview, which is available here.
