NJBIZ has named Alan Sobel as the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Honoree for its Leaders in Finance awards.
Sobel, who is managing principal of the New Jersey offices for CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen LLP), has 40 years’ experience in serving private business owners in industries such as real estate, supermarkets, manufacturing and distribution, and professional services, according to his CLA profile.
After starting his career in Massachusetts, in 1987 Sobel joined the accounting and advisory firm his father, Bernard, founded: SobelCo, which established offices in Livingston and Woodcliff Lake. In February, SobelCo merged with Minneapolis-based CLA, the eighth-largest accounting firm in the U.S. Earlier in March, Sobel sat down with NJBIZ to talk about the move.
According to CLA, Sobel’s primary client focus is advising business owners and high, net-worth individuals on tax, mergers/acquisitions, financial reporting and business strategy.
A former president of the New Jersey Society of CPAs, Sobel was also named to the 2022 NJBIZ Accounting Power 50 list and honored by the American Institute of CPAs with its Special Recognition Award in December 2022 for spearheading the passage of the Pass-Through Business Alternative Tax Act.
“Alan’s unwavering commitment to improve the lives of his clients and other businesses owners throughout the Garden State is admired and respected by his peers at the NJCPA, AICPA, and other state CPA societies and the business community,” said Barry Melancon, president and CEO of the AICPA, when Sobel received that organization’s special honor.
The Leaders in Finance awards program celebrates New Jersey’s financial executives at all levels who contribute to the success of their companies as well as their community. All honorees will be recognized during an April 25 awards ceremony at The DoubleTree by Hilton Somerset. For tickets, visit the events page. To see the complete list of honorees, click here.o
