New Jersey City University () and (MCCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Oct. 14 establishing a seamless transfer experience.

The MCCC | NJCU Transfer Program makes MCCC students in good academic standing, who have earned an associate’s degree, eligible for joint admission into NJCU. Students join with junior academic status in the same or similar academic program of study.

The agreement marks the third major transfer initiative NJCU has signed over the last 12 months, including with Essex County College and Hudson County Community College.

Under the terms of this new partnership, every credit earned at MCCC can transfer to NJCU.

Other key details include:
  • The two schools will adopt specific program-to-program pathways under the dual admission policy to facilitate the transfer of credits; with many pathways already developed, additional ones are also slated over time
  • NJCU and MCCC will develop joint admission standards and provide academic advising, as well as support programs and staff for students enrolled in the program
  • The partners will collaborate to market the opportunity to current and prospective students
  • The schools will conduct regular and joint data-driven evaluations of the program to assess and make necessary adjustments
  • Waiving all application fees for transfer students into NJCU
  • Participating students will be eligible for transfer scholarships

The MOU will be valid for least the next five years. NJCU interim President Andres Acebo and MCCC President Deborah Preston signed the agreement. Each school’s provost and other academic leaders also signed the MOU.

“NJCU continues to develop pathways with like-minded institutions to ensure our state’s students have an expeditious process to fulfill their academic promise without the burdensome obstacles that some students have historically and inequitably faced,” said Acebo. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to academic excellence and ensures that students can pursue their educational goals with greater flexibility and support.”

“We are always happy for students to have seamless pathways to continue their education,” said Preston.
