Nariman Farvardin

Farvardin has led Stevens Institute of Technology for 13 years, making him the longest-serving president of a private college in the state. The class of 2028 at Stevens will be the first cohort to benefit from a new core curriculum called SUCCESS. Featuring a Frontiers of Technology component, it is designed to instill an essential baseline of knowledge in such rapidly advancing fields as AI and machine learning as well as biotechnology for all students. The signature program reflects Farvardin’s approach to education — emphasizing not only essential hard skills, but the flexibility to adapt to, and shape, the innovations of the future. Two years into the university’s second 10-year strategic plan, “Inspired by Humanity, Powered by Technology,” and building on the success of the first, Farvardin’s humanity-first approach to technical education has continued to attract a wider pool of students, with an increasingly higher academic profile. In spring 2024, Farvardin was selected as recipient of the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and he oversaw the launch of Stevens’ College of Professional Education. The new academic unit was created to grow the university’s online programs by providing flexible learning opportunities for working professionals and upskilling the technology-focused labor force. Farvardin has also expanded partnerships with the community, and industry partners of the region, notably through the spring launch of NJ FAST, a Strategic Innovation Center that supports research and development, innovation and entrepreneurship in the financial and insurance technology sectors.
