Since 2003, Silverstein has served as CEO of Egg Harbor Township-based Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc., the parent company of seasonal pop-up shop Spirit Halloween and novelty retailer Spencer’s. Spirit Halloween is considered the go-to place for costumes, props, accessories and decorations. The banner typically opens more than 1,500 pop-up stores between late summer and fall for spooky season. In 2025, it brought back a new Christmas-themed concept for a second year in a row.
A shopping mall staple, Spencer’s has more than 630 stores across the U.S. and Canada. It sells gag gifts, décor, apparel, jewelry, backpacks, accessories and games.
Silverstein, a retail veteran whose background includes leadership roles at Linens & Things and Bloomingdale’s, has also made giving back a key part of the company’s mission. Since 2007, it has raised more than $163 million for pediatric hospital child life programs and over $15 million to support young adult cancer patients.
In 2025, Spencer Spirit expanded that impact through record volunteerism of 1,204 hours and donations of 40,000-plus essential items. It also strengthened partner-ships with food banks, social service organizations and animal welfare groups. Additionally, the company deepened investments in education, contributing $250,000 for a fourth year to Stockton University — bringing total giving to $1 million. It recently launched an associate relief fund using a $50,000 corporate contribution to support employees during emergencies.
