Thomas Cavalieri

Last winter, Dr. Cavalieri took the helm at the Virtua Health College of Medicine and Life Sciences of Rowan University – a major academic-health partnership between the university and South Jersey’s largest health system. Established in 2021, that collaboration is aimed at bringing together leaders in health care and higher education toward a vision of improving the quality, experience and capabilities of health care for all people. Cavalieri brings extensive experience and expertise to the role – having previously served as dean of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to serving as senior vice provost of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, Cavalieri is also chief academic officer of Virtua Health. He is also the founding director of the Center of Aging, now the Rowan-Virtua New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging. “Throughout his more than 40-year career as a physician, Dr. Cavalieri has been a tireless advocate for medical education, research, and improving the lives of medically underserved individuals,” said Rowan President Ali Houshmand last year when he announced Cavalieri’s appointment. “I am pleased that Dr. Cavalieri has agreed to help us advance the bold and transformational mission of Virtua Health College.”
