Launched in 2021, Bennabis Health works to fill holes in the health insurance industry with membership programs that offer patients discounts to help lower the out-of-pocket cost of medical cannabis, a treatment not covered by carriers. Led by its chief executive officer, Agos, who has over 35 years of experience as a pharmaceutical executive, the Cranford-headquartered startup is one of the first companies in the U.S. to offer such programs for patients.

Within the past two years, Bennabis has expanded its national network of dispensaries to include two out-of-state – in New Mexico and Washington, D.C. – and several in New Jersey, such as The Botanist in Atlantic City, Egg Harbor and Williamstown; Valley Wellness in Raritan; and Harmony Foundation in Secaucus. It has also formed partnerships with other entities in the health care sector, including Canna Care Docs, one of the country’s top providers of online patient evaluations.

Along with a 15% discount at participating networks, patients who join Bennabis’ membership program are provided science-based education and support for medicinal cannabis.

Agos, whose health care career includes roles in medicinal marijuana dispensary management and patient care, has said Bennabis strives to “assist patients at any stage of their medical cannabis journey, reducing cost and making it more accessible.”
