PSE&G announced Dec. 23 marking more than 2 million installations through its Smart Meter Program.

The multiyear effort is aimed at replacing existing electric meters for both residential and business customers with new smart meters.

The Newark-headquartered utility noted the benefits of the new devices, which link to PSE&G’s system-monitoring and customer applications. Highlighted perks include:

  • More frequent and detailed power status
  • Increased clarity on bills
  • More efficient power restoration following storms
  • MyMeter, an online portal that provides a number of tools and resources for customers

In a press release, Dave Johnson, vice president of customer care and chief customer officer for PSE&G, said the achievement is a critical milestone on the path to an improved customer experience – enabling customers even greater access to understanding and managing their industry use.

“There are already more than 110 million smart meters installed across the United States, and we’re pleased to support this roll out across our electric service territory,” said Johnson. “With this key step, consumers have access to data so they can make informed choices and take action that impacts their energy usage.”
