Quest Diagnostics completed its acquisition of select assets from OhioHealth’s laboratory services business.
In an Oct. 14 news release, the Secaucus-based testing provider announced the deal’s close, saying the transaction will broaden access to cost-effective and innovative laboratory services in Ohio. Financial terms were not disclosed.
As part of the agreement, OhioHealth, a not-for-profit charitable health group of the United Methodist Church, will transition its outreach testing to Quest’s full-service lab in Pittsburgh.
The move will benefit providers and patients through access to an industry-leading test menu, network of patient service sites throughout the state, broad health plan coverage and lower out-of-pocket costs, Quest said. OhioHealth will continue to own and operate its hospital labs and services for inpatient and hospital-based outpatient care, anatomic pathology and oncology.
When the acquisition was announced in June, Quest chairman, CEO and president Jim Davis said he believes it “exemplifies our ability to attract and collaborate with high quality health systems seeking to optimize their lab services.”
“Health systems are increasingly turning to Quest because of our unique ability to deliver laboratory testing that is innovative, accessible and cost effective,” Davis said.
“This transaction also delivers on our strategy, which includes generating growth through accretive outreach lab acquisitions, and will extend our presence across Ohio.”
The completion of the deal with OhioHealth comes about a month after Quest finalized a similar transaction with Allina Health, a nonprofit health care system in Minneapolis, for an undisclosed sum.
