Rochelle Park-based consumer food products company Panos Brands added smoked salmon producer Santa Barbara Steakhouse to its lineup of specialty brands.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in a May 15 press release announcing the transaction.
Located in California, Santa Barbara Smokehouse is considered a leader in producing high-quality, smoked salmon. In addition to being served in foodservice channels, such as fine restaurants and premier hotels, SBS products are available in retail stores.
Panos CEO Darcy Zbinovec stated, “We are excited to partner with customers to expand availability of this distinctive smoked salmon across foodservice and retail channels.”
She went on to say, “SBS products are differentiated in the marketplace. The portfolio is aligned with consumer trends, including the demand for super-premium quality, and the continued interest in better-for-you foods like smoked salmon that are rich in protein and omega-3.”
SBS founder and Managing Director Tim Brown commented, “I’m excited for Panos to expand the reach of these products to fuel consumer interest in high quality smoked salmon.”
The deal marks Panos’ second acquisition of the year.
In January, the company snapped up popular organic salad dressing and condiment brand Tessemae’s. The deal was valued at $4.5 million. It came about a year after Tessemae’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Founded in 2007 and later acquired by private equity firm Hammond, Kennedy, Whitney & Co. Inc., Panos manages a collection of brands that includes Andrew & Everett Cheese, KA-ME Asian food products, Walden Farms calorie-free foods, Better Than Milk plant-based drinks and Amore Italian cooking pastes.
