Rowan University and AI cloud company Nebius have entered into a partnership to expand artificial intelligence education and workforce development in New Jersey. The collaboration aligns with Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s push for data center operators to invest in local communities and help create high-quality jobs.

The partners announced the effort June 11. It brings together Rowan’s academic programs and online learning capabilities with Nebius Academy, the company’s education and research arm.

Rowan and Nebius plan to develop academic and workforce training pathways. The coursework will focus on artificial intelligence, data science and cloud computing, as well as related technology fields.

The announcement comes just weeks after Sherrill unveiled what her administration described as the nation’s first comprehensive statewide framework for regulating the rapidly growing data center industry.

As NJBIZ reported, the governor’s proposal includes requirements for data center operators to support local economic development, workforce training and community benefits. It also aims to help address concerns related to energy demand, infrastructure and community impacts.

Under the new agreement, Rowan and Nebius Academy will explore a range of initiatives, such as:

• Online and in-person educational programs
• Stackable credentials and certificates
• Industry-aligned training programs
• Project-based learning opportunities
• Bolstering faculty expertise, instructional resources and technology infrastructure

Bringing long-term benefits

The collaboration intends to support traditional college students as well as adult learners. It will also engage workers seeking to reskill or upskill for emerging technology careers. The diverse pool is particularly crucial as demand grows for workers to support AI infrastructure and next-generation computing technologies.
