Smolin makes key leadership changes

Smolin, Lupin & Co. LLC made some key leadership changes this month, the Fairfield-based accounting firm announced in a July 20 email.
After 20 years as managing member, Ted Dudek stepped down July 1. Describing him as “a well-respected mentor to the partners and the staff,” the firm thanked Dudek for his leadership and dedication through the years.
Additionally, Smolin elevated Paul Fried to the position of chief executive officer and Sal Bursese to the position of chief operating officer.
Meet the new leaders
A licensed Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey, Fried has practiced accounting for more than 30 years, according to his profile on Smolin’s website. He works with clients in the construction, real estate, manufacturing, distribution and professional service industries.
His expertise includes tax, forensic accounting, and merger and acquisition support, as well as business valuation and litigation services.
Fried, who is based out of the firm’s Red Bank office, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) and has served on multiple committees at Smolin. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The firm’s new COO, Bursese also is a licensed CPA in New Jersey with more than 27 years’ experience in the industry. He services clients in the senior care, manufacturing, real estate, retail, transportation and wholesale industries with accounting, tax, litigation and management assistance.
Bursese is a member of the AICPA and NJCPA and serves on multiple committees at the Smolin. Based out of the firm’s Fairfield office, he earned his bachelor’s in accounting from William Paterson University.
Dudek applauded Fried’s and Bursese’s promotions, saying, “Their experience within Smolin and in public accounting have provided them with solid foundations that will allow them to excel in their new roles.”
