Wakefern Food Corp. member Zallie-Somerset Inc. will open two new ShopRite stores in South Jersey in 2023 after 50 years in the supermarket business. Additionally, a major renovation of the ShopRite of Glassboro is also underway this year.
Zallie-Somerset President David Zallie announced the plans to open the ShopRite of Center Square Plaza in March 2023, according to a March 2 announcement. The store will replace the ShopRite of Gibbstown upon opening.
Zallie also plans to open a new ShopRite in Blackwood located in the Cherrywood Plaza, at the site of a former Kmart, later next year. The store will replace the existing ShopRite of Laurel Hill, the family’s very first supermarket in the South Jersey area, launched when David’s father, George Zallie, opened a Shop & Bag Market there in June 1973.
Additionally, the renovation and expansion at ShopRite of Glassboro is expected to be completed later this year
“We are excited to be approaching our 50th anniversary in the grocery business with major projects and investments for our customers,” said David Zallie in a prepared statement. “We are so grateful to be in business in the South Jersey community for nearly a half century. Innovating the grocery shopping experience for our guests and supporting the communities we serve is our continuing focus. We are committed to providing an excellent shopping experience centered on service, variety, and freshness.”
