As New Jersey prepares to welcome soccer fans from around the globe for the , Gov. Mikie Sherrill on Monday announced a new opportunity for municipalities to extend bar operating hours to capitalize on the economic activity expected during the international tournament.

During a visit to Hoboken’s Mulligan’s Pub, a major hub for soccer viewing in New Jersey, Sherrill highlighted new guidance from the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The governor signed a proclamation notifying municipalities they may temporarily adjust local alcohol hours-of-sale ordinances while maintaining public safety and responsible alcohol service standards.

Sherrill called the World Cup a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for people across the state to come together, celebrate and enjoy everything that makes New Jersey special.

“Today we’re making it easier for residents and visitors to keep the energy going beyond the stadium, whether that’s gathering with friends at local restaurants, cheering on matches at neighborhood bars, or enjoying the excitement in our downtowns and communities,” she said.
