Basking Ridge-based Barnes & Noble Education Inc. is taking the helm of Syracuse University’s campus store.
As part of an agreement announced Nov. 12, the company’s Barnes & Noble College subsidiary will manage all course materials, retail and e-commerce operations at Syracuse. The university previously operated the store and in-venue athletics retail.
BNC highlighted several new offerings it’ll bring, such as an expanded and elevated assortment of Syracuse apparel and gifts through its strategic partnership with Fanatics and Lids.
Over the past year, BNC, Lids and Fanatics partnered on several collegiate releases. That work includes collaborations with brands like Lululemon, Stoney Clover Lane and Faherty. At Syracuse, BNC said it will look to introduce similar collections.
According to BNC, store operations will begin transitioning in November and continue through the end of 2024.
Barnes & Noble Education CEO Jonathan Shar commented, “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with a world-class institution like Syracuse University.”
“Barnes & Noble College will transform the campus store into a destination that delivers best-in-class omni-channel retail experiences and provide course material solutions that underscore our commitment to removing barriers to access, improving affordability and enhancing student academic outcomes,” he said.
John Papazoglou, senior vice president and chief operations officer, Syracuse University, said, “We are excited to welcome Barnes & Noble College to Syracuse University and look forward to our partnership. Their expertise will be invaluable as the University continues to focus on delivering affordable, accessible course materials to its students and making sure they have what they need to excel in the classroom.”
According to Barnes & Noble Education, BNC operates more than 650 campus stores and school-branded e-commerce sites. It serves nearly 6 million college students and faculty nationwide.
