After shuttering its longtime store on Route 17 in Paramus earlier this year, Barnes & Noble will make its return just across the busy Bergen County highway on Nov. 24. The retailer announced the official opening date Oct. 17.

The new location at 634 Route 17 N. will have an updated design featuring the chain’s trademark selection of books, toys, games and vinyl, as well as a Barnes & Noble café. The retailer has also said it hopes to include a used books section – one of the previous location’s most popular areas.

In a recent social media post, the bookseller shared pictures of construction underway at the new location – formerly home to Toys R Us and most recently Big Lots!, saying, “More progress is being made!”

Barnes & Noble was forced to relocate from 765 Route 17 S. after the store’s landlord opted not to renew the lease agreement. Following the March closure, New Concepts for Living plans to open a day care program in the vacated space for adults with developmental disabilities.

After announcing plans to stay local, Amy Fitzgerald, Barnes & Noble’s vice president of stores, said, “We couldn’t be happier to announce our relocation — we know our Paramus customers were dismayed to hear about our impending closure, which makes it that much more exciting to have found a new home so close by.”

She also went on to point out that Barnes & Noble is “in a period of growth and great optimism in bookselling” and will be launching 30 new stores this year.

At its peak in 2008, Barnes & Noble had nearly 730 locations throughout the U.S. Now, it has about 600 stores nationwide, including 17 in New Jersey.
