After legalizing the practice after the New Year, the Empire State now holds the title for most wagers place in a single month.

"New Jerseyans, and specifically Devils fans, are more likely to play the lottery than many across the country," said Jackpocket CEO Peter Sullivan in a prepared statement. "Jackpocket is proud to partner with the Devils to bring this dedicated fan base a simple, fun way to play the lottery."

The company said it will launch its VIE.gg wagering platform following a five-day "soft play" period that will ensure all the rules are being followed.

The Jersey City-based company is the first courier to offer players the opportunity to play the options every way, across all five bet types: straight, box, straight/box, wheel and pair bets.

The achievement is a first in the state, and the nation. According to the Division of Gaming Enforcement more than $918 million was wagered online, with the other $92.6 million in person.

New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement figures show gaming halls and racetracks took in a combined $427.6 million last month, compared to $326.3 million for the same month last year, which was the first full month that all the state's establishments reopened following a three-and-a-half-month total shutdown. They had won a combined $352.8 million in August 2019.

Later this fall, peer-to-peer U.S. exchange Prophet will launch its headquarters on the Hudson River ahead of the NFL and college football season. 

Eight of New Jersey’s nine gaming palaces were profitable as they slowly restarted operations after a year of pandemic closures and limitations.

More than $118 million was won in July 2021—a 35.7% increase from the $87.5 million the house took in during the same month the year before, when brick and mortar casinos were just beginning to reopen after a three-and-a-half-month shutdown due to the pandemic.
