Union County Savings Bank of Elizabeth, which has served its community for 139 years, promoted Joseph Yewaisis to chairman and chief executive officer this fall, the financial institution announced March 1.

Joseph Yewaisis – UNION COUNTY SAVINGS BANK
Yewaisis — who joined the bank in May 2021 as chief operating officer and was named chairman and CEO on Oct. 1, 2021 — brings 25 years of leadership experience in lending, accounting, crediting and auditing to the savings bank.
Prior to joining UCSB, he served as a senior managing director of Sterling National Bank, where he managed a $2 billion division for the bank. He previously also served in roles at Provident, the Bank of New York and KPMG International.
“As we move into 2022, the team at UCSB and I are working hard to implement new technologies to connect with our customers daily and expand our leadership team in order to renew the customer experience,” Yewaisis said in a prepared statement. “We will also be offering new products and services designed to meet the expanding needs of our diversified customer base while preserving our 139-year pledge of security, safety, and service.”
Under his leadership, the bank’s new bilingual website launched in late January, and he is also leading efforts to refurbish each of UCSB’s four New Jersey locations: in Cranford, Union and two Elizabeth branches.
Yewaisis earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Manhattan College and master’s degrees in both accountancy and business administration from St. Peter’s University. He serves as chairman of the Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center Foundation Board and is a member of HMH’s Network Foundation Board and HMH’s Investment Committee.
At UCSB, he has already doubled the size of the Union County Savings Bank Charitable Foundation, which works to provide financial assistance to low-to-moderate-income communities in Union and Essex counties through grants provided by the bank.
Union County Saving Bank was ranked eighth on NJBIZ’s 2021 New Jersey’s Top Savings Banks & Associations list with annual deposits of $1.63 billion.
