Virtua Health plans to acquire Moorestown-based Reconstructive Orthopedics in a deal that will add 60 clinicians and 300 total employees to Virtua Medical Group, the buyer said April 19.
The acquisition, which is expected to close in July, will also bring eight locations to South Jersey’s largest health system. The target’s offices are situated in Burlington, Camden, Cumberland and Gloucester counties. The practices will operate as Virtua Reconstructive Orthopedics.
“Virtua has long been dedicated to quality health care close to home, and views this as fundamental to a person’s quality of life,” said Dennis Pullin, president and CEO of Marlton-based Virtua Health. “For decades, the doctors and professionals of Reconstructive Orthopedics have delivered outstanding care to this community and are held in the highest regard by their patients. We are excited and honored to have this caliber of experts join Virtua and to continue this legacy moving forward.”
Virtua Medical Group is a network of medical and surgical physicians and other clinicians employed by or exclusively affiliated with Virtua who provide primary care, urgent care, specialty care and other services. The group employs more than 1,000 clinicians.
According to Virtua, Reconstructive Orthopedics was founded in 1977 and ranks among the largest New Jersey-based orthopedic practices, having performed more than 100,000 surgical procedures. Its roster of clinicians includes specialists in all major areas of the musculoskeletal system, along with experts in trauma and sports medicine.
The deal announcement comes a day after Virtua unveiled a state-of-the-art Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit. The vehicle is a $1 million customized van that will offer various cancer screenings and other services in local communities.
In all, Virtua operates five acute-care hospitals and a network of more than 35 surgery centers. The system is affiliated with Rowan University through the Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences at the school. It is also affiliated with Penn Medicine for cancer and neuroscience and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for pediatrics.
