PHARMACEUTICALS

Tasuku Honjo has been named a member of the scientific advisory board of Cytogen. A pioneer in the study of the genetic organization of the immune system, he is a professor of medical chemistry in Kyoto University. Honjo holds M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Kyoto University and has also earned fellowships at the Carnegie Institution of Washington and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Maryland. He has won the Takeda Medical Award and was named an honorary member of the American Association of Immunologists.

ACCOUNTING

Diane M. Wasser has been promoted to supervisor of the accounting and auditing department at the Flemington office of Amper, Politziner and Mattia. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Wasser holds a bachelor”s degree in accounting from the University of Miami, Oxford, Ohio.

Annette Murray has been promoted to firm administrator and manager of Wilkin, Guttenplan & Davidoff In the newly-created position, she will take charge of firm training, quality control, staff scheduling, accounting, tax and consulting services for small businesses. She joined the firm in 1984 and was previously a supervisor. Murray graduated from Rutgers and holds a bachelor”s degree in business administration.

ADVERTISING

Karen Bruno has joined Gillespie Advertising as assistant art director. She will work on accounts such as Yale Materials, FMC and M. Grumbacher, Inc. A recent graduate, she worked for Fox while she was a student. Bruno holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in advertising design from Syracuse University.

BANKING

Donna L. Facey has been named assistant secretary of collections at New Brunswick Savings Bank. She joined the bank as a teller in 1981 and was later transferred to the collections department, where she was promoted to supervisor in 1988 and manager in 1989. Facey holds a bachelor”s degree from Montclair State College.

Louis J. Solimeo Jr., has been promoted to assistant vice president of the commercial banking division of Chemical Bank New Jersey, and will now be responsible for the bank”s middle market lending activities. He has spent five years in banking and was previously a commercial account officer and a senior credit analyst at Princeton Bank. Solimeo holds a bachelor”s degree in journalism from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He is a member of the Southern New Jersey Development Council and the Rutgers Small Business Development Organization.

CONSULTING

Dale Haines has joined the Information Management Group as a computer programmer. He will be responsible for developing custom software and also be involved in client support services. Haines holds a bachelor”s degree in computer science from Washington and Lee University. Cesar Fernandes has also joined the computer consulting firm as a computer programmer. He was previously a data entry operator at Gray Appraisal Service. Fernandes holds a bachelor”s degree in computer science from DeVry Institute in Los Angeles. In addition, Steven N. Bloom has joined the firm as a programmer and analyst. Bloom previously managed the computer department of the accounting firm Alcotta, Fritsch and Walsh.

Charles W. Anderson has joined Halberstadt Financial Consultants as its vice president. He will be in charge of developing an asset management service for individuals and closely-held businesses with emphasis on ERISA compliance for qualified retirement plans. He was formerly a vice president of the Export Import Bank in Washington and the chief financial officer of the Foreign Credit Insurance Association in New York City. Anderson holds a bachelor”s degree from Maryland University as well as a master”s degree from Harvard.

Thomas F. Ochab has joined the Nielsen-Wurster Group in Princeton as principal-in-charge of the Mid-Atlantic region. He has over 21 years or experience in design, construction, renovation, project management, cost control, scheduling and project planning. Ochab has a bachelor”s degree in civil engineering and a master”s degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.

LAW

Rita F. Menz has been appointed marketing manager of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer. She was formerly the manager of the public relations department of Poppe Tyson Advertising and Public Relations, a company based in Morris Plains. She also set up public relations departments at WLMW Advertising and at Caldwell College.

Ian T. Hammett has joined the environmental department at the Lawrenceville office of Cohen, Shapiro, Polisher, Shiehman and Cohen. He was previously an attorney with Smith, Stratton, Wise, Heher & Brennan. Hammett specializes in environmental law and environmental insurance coverage litigation. He graduated from Drew University and received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Hammett is a member of the American Bar Association and an executive committee member of the division probate and trust law committee.

Michael G. Schwarz has joined Mathews, Woodbridge & Collins as an attorney. A specialist in international licensing and patent prosecution, he will work at the firm”s Princeton office. He formerly worked for Linklaters & Paines in London. Schwarz holds a bachelor”s degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and a law degree from the University of Houston.

REAL ESTATE

Louise J. Baker has been named a sales associate in the Princeton office of Weichert Realtors. She is a member of the Mercer County Board of Realtors and was previously a sales associate at another real estate firm. Before that, she worked for five years as a bilingual administrative assistant in Firmenich & Co. and for ten years as an inventory coordinator and translator for Michelin Tire Corp. Baker holds a bachelor”s degree in secondary education and French from the State University of New York.

Lee H. Pavel has joined Benchmark Appraisal as a senior major property appraiser. He has been an appraiser for six years, specializing in the appraisal of commercial and industrial property. Pavel was recently awarded the SRPA (senior real property appraiser) professional designation by the board of governors of the International Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He serves on the Princeton township board of assessors.

Gregg Boyden has been appointed a maintenance technician in the facilities management department of College Park at Princeton Forrestal Center. He previously worked for the Carrier Foundation. Anda Hodapp has also joined College Park as accounts payable coordinator. She worked for M. A. Furrey & Associates before taking on her present job. In addition, Linda Lacagnato has joined as a receptionist. She used to work for First Investors Mortgage.

TRANSPORT

Robert J. Grassi has been promoted to senior vice president, finance, of Sea-Land Service. He was previously vice president of finance and chief financial officer. Before joining the firm, Grassi held planning, accounting and financial analysis jobs with Squibb, Bristol-Myers and Exxon. He has an MBA from Bernard Baruch College, City University of New York, and a bachelor”s degree from Rider. In addition, John O. Parker has been named senior vice president of information resources. He was formerly vice president of information resources at Squibb. Parker holds a bachelor”s degree from Bowdoin College and a master”s degree from Harvard. Michael D. Tebay has also been named a senior vice president of the firm. He will be in charge of marketing and development, responsibilities that he has handled since 1989. He joined SeaLand from its parent CSX, where he was vice president of planning and development. Before joining CSX in 1986, he was executive vice president of Transamerica Interway”s motor carrier group and a manager with the Boston Consulting Group. Tebay graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University in Britain and holds a master”s degree from Harvard.

ASSOCIATIONS

Archie E. Lapointe, executive director of the Educational Testing Service, has been elected to the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Central New Jersey. Before joining ETS, he was president and chief executive director of the National Institute for Work and Learning in Washington, and, before that, vice president of Science Research Associates. Lapointe, who has taught in Trenton public schools and trained teachers at Rutgers, has a bachelor”s degree from Fordham University and a master”s degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Richard Malinofsky, accounting and auditing manager at Green Anderson and Co., has been elected to the audit committee of the United Way of Somerset Valley. He will be responsible for selecting an external auditor, reviewing financial statements and checking internal controls for potential loss. Malinofsky has a bachelor”s degree in economics and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

AWARDS

The Central New Jersey Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews has presented a Brotherhood and Sisterhood award to Samuel G. Nowell, vice president of Edison-based Summit Associates. Nowell has won recognition for fund-raising efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society. Barry Rosengarten of Rosengarten Realty and Development in Perth Amboy has also won the same award. He is the chairman of Celebrate Perth Amboy and was named Businessman of the Year by the Perth Amboy Chamber of Commerce in 1989. Another winner of the award is Leonard R. Sendelsky, president of Lenguy Construction in Woodbridge. He has been an officer of the Central New Jersey and New Jersey Builders Association for 30 years. Pendelsky was the first president of the Home Owners Warranty Corporation of New Jersey.

Christopher S. Tarr, a partner in the law firm Smith, Stratton, Wise, Heher & Brennan, has been honored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Princeton Area for outstanding community service. Tarr was the chairman of the chamber in 1984. He is a member of several organizations, including the Princeton chapter of American Red Cross, Greater Princeton Transportation Management Association and Greater Princeton Jaycees.

Irving Esko has received an award from the Association for the Advancement of the Mentally Handicapped, for the development of a program to orient real estate brokers to the needs of the disabled. Esko is a sales associate at the Hamilton office of Weichert Realtors and is involved with several organizations for the handicapped. He is a member of the board of trustees of United Cerebral Palsy Association of Mercer County and the Mercer Association for Retarded Citizens.
