Deirdre Blaus, who has served in an interim capacity since June, now takes on the permanent chief administrative officer position at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
The RWJBarnabas Health facility announced the move April 3. Blaus succeeds Patrick Delaney, who also took on a new role last summer as senior vice president and chief operating officer of RWJUH New Brunswick.
Blaus joined RWJUH Somerset in November 2015 as director of the Steeplechase Cancer Center, which houses the hospital’s outpatient cancer care services. She was promoted to assistant vice president of cancer services in 2018; vice president of cancer services and business development in 2021; and vice president of operations in January 2023.
While serving as interim chief administrative officer, Blaus oversaw the opening of the hospital’s 76,000-square foot, two-story vertical expansion project. Completed last fall, the construction project was the largest on the hospital’s campus since the $28 million Steeplechase Cancer Center opened in 2007.
“In her nine years in various leadership roles at RWJUH Somerset, Deirdre has been instrumental in the hospital’s growth to better serve our community, expanding services, recruiting new medical specialists and implementing the latest technologies,” Bill Arnold, executive vice president, president, Southern Region for RWJBarnabas Health, and CEO, RWJUH in New Brunswick, said in a statement.
Those expanded cancer care offerings include medical oncology services, infusion therapy, patient navigation services, support services and survivorship programs and more, the promotion announcement noted.
In a LinkedIn post, Blaus said, “It is a great privilege and honor to serve the incredible team at RWJUH Somerset!”
Blaus earned a bachelor’s in psychology and business/corporate communications from the College of Charleston and a master’s in health, health care administration and management from the Medical University of South Carolina, according to LinkedIn.
