As part of its effort to combat the effects of the war on drugs, multistate cannabis business operator Ayr Wellness Inc. will host a free expungement clinic on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Newark.
Held in collaboration with cannabis consulting firm Blaze Responsibly, the event is scheduled to run from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 15 at The Newark Museum of Art, located at 49 Washington St.
For the upcoming clinic, Ayr and Blaze are partnering with the museum to provide individuals an opportunity to expunge cannabis-related convictions and other non-violent crimes from their records at no cost. The event will also connect attendees to legal services, re-entry and wrap-around programs, veterans’ resources, housing assistance, ID support and job placement opportunities, according to Ayr.
Registration is required and can be completed by clicking here.
The event is also being held as part of the museum’s Community Day, a free event featuring hands-on activities, information, performances, goods and information in honor of MLK.
Florida-based Ayr – which has retail dispensaries in Woodbridge, Union and Eatontown – has presented several similar clinics in New Jersey over the past year through its ongoing Changing Legacies initiative.
Tenisha Victor, the company’s director of emerging markets, told NJBIZ last summer that the expungement program is one of several ways Ayr tries to meet its mission of being a “Force for Good” in the community.
“We recognize the importance of serving as a responsible operator in this industry, which includes empowering people who have been affected by the war on drugs, and we intend to continue to use our platform to enact positive change with events like these,” she also said.
