Jersey City’s rising Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood is rounding out its retail mix, adding four new dining options.

The eateries signed on for space within The Bergen Lafayette Collection. Alpine Residential and Fields Grade recently announced the additions to the mixed-use Atlas, Starling and The Hazel properties.

On the menu:

• Eggs Up: a breakfast café located at the 24-story Atlas rental high-rise opening in August at 27 Johnston St.
• MochiDough/BoberTea: a premium Japanese doughnut and bubble tea shop coming to the Starling located at 66 Monitor St. in August.
• Cheeky’s: expected to start serving its “New Orleans-style” sandwiches this fall at The Hazel at 89 Monitor St.
• The Roxy: a new venture between team members from Corto (in Jersey City Heights), which opened this spring at Starling.

The options join an eclectic mix of dining and shopping experiences in the emerging neighborhood.

The Bergen Lafayette Collection marks a collaboration between Alpine Residential and Fields Grade, both active in the neighborhood. The partners say the collection will total nearly 1,000 apartments across five mixed-use buildings.

• Atlas: the tallest building in Bergen Lafayette offers 169 studios as well as one-, two- and three-bedroom residences; 60% are leased.
• Starling: boutique six-story building featuring 39 studio-to-three-bedroom residences.
• The Hazel Jersey City: with 201 units.
• Solaris Lofts: located at 65 Maple St., the five-story rental building offers 72 residences.
• Scholar’s Village: Liberty Science Center selected Alpine Residential to develop the mixed-use project on the banks of Liberty State Park, in the heart of SciTech Scity. Slated to begin in the 2nd quarter of 2024, the project will feature 500 design-forward residences and retail space.

A ‘hotbed’ of activity

Alpine’s affiliated management company, South Oxford Management, directs leasing and management for The Bergen Lafayette Collection.

The June announcement noted recent, and significant, investment and city-backed infrastructure improvements in the area, such as extending Jersey Avenue for pedestrians, bicyclists and other traffic for a better downtown connection. Local light rail service also links Bergen-Lafayette to the PATH, ferry terminals.

Alpine Residential is the development division of Beachwold Residential. The privately owned real estate company controls nearly 16,000 multifamily units across seven states, including New Jersey. Fields Grade is a full-service real estate development company based in Jersey City.
