BetMGM disclosed an unauthorized breach of customer records Dec. 21.
The Jersey City-based company said the issue affected personal information such as name, postal address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, hashed Social Security number, account identifiers and information related to transactions with BetMGM.
According to a statement, BetMGM learned of the breach on Nov. 28, 2022, and believes the issue occurred in May.
The company promptly launched an investigation, which has to date found no evidence of any passwords or account funds being accessed. Additionally, BetMGM’s online operations were not compromised. No figures on the number of affected customer accounts were disclosed.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and are working quickly to investigate it,” said CEO Adam Greenblatt. “The security of our platform and our patrons’ data is a top priority for BetMGM.”
BetMGM said it is coordinating with law enforcement and taking steps to beef up its security. The company recommended that customers be on the lookout for any suspicious activity or unsolicited communications regarding their personal information. It has also arranged to offer any affected customers credit monitoring and identity restoration services for two years at no cost.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” Greenblatt added.
