New Jerseyans can now get a taste of the burger that took the top prize in a contest sponsored by Carlstadt-based meat purveyor Schweid & Sons during the Food Network’s annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

After facing off against 29 other restaurants in the Feb. 23 competition, a team from popular Florida chain BurgerFi won over a panel of celebrity judges with its BBQ Rodeo Burger, which was created using Schweid & Sons all-natural Angus beef and topped with charred jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, crispy haystack onions and sweet Memphis barbecue sauce.

The winning burger, which the company launched in-store Feb. 21, will be available for a limited time through April 17. Within New Jersey, it can be found at BurgerFi’s location in Cherry Hill (1584 Kings Highway N.).

Along with taking home the trophy for “The Very Best Burger Award,” BurgerFi received a check for $2,500 presented by Schweid & Sons’ president and chief executive officer Jamie Schweid.

“The People’s Choice Award,” which was voted on by festival-goers, was presented to Motek Café, an Israeli restaurant based in Florida, for a second year in a row.

This year, Motek wowed the crowd with its Arayes Burger, which combined beef with lamb, topped with harissa and tahini and served on pita bread.

Considered one of the most popular events of the five-day festival in Miami, Fla., Schweid & Sons has served as a presenting sponsor of the Burger Bash for nearly a decade.

This year’s competition was hosted by esteemed chef Emeril Lagasse and judged by a panel that included Robert Irvine of Food Network fame, Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports, Phil Rosenthal of Netflix hit Somebody Feed Phil, and Iron Chef Ming Tsai of MingsBings and BaBa at Yellowstone Club.

In addition to being a consumer favorite at supermarkets, Schweid & Sons, a and operated fourth-generation company, supplies high-quality ground beef to grocery retailers and restaurants, including Five Guys, Fuddruckers and Cheesecake Factory.
