Camden officials released plans Tuesday for the Beacon Building, a 25-story office tower that would be the largest in South Jersey.

The project would also complement the reconstruction of the Walter Rand Transportation Center, part of a vision for one of the largest transit hubs in New Jersey. Additionally, it would continue the momentum of economic development taking place throughout the city, such as the $3 billion expansion of Cooper University Health Care.

Key features of the Beacon Building include:

  • More than 500,000 square feet of office space — including five 27,000-square-foot floors as well as 20 18,000-square-foot floors
  • Located on parcels of land between Federal Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
  • Would feature a parking structure on Lot N
  • Would introduce a new public square to serve as a landmark of downtown
  • Tenants will comprise public as well as private entities, including Cooper University Health Care
  • A petition will be made to the state to relocate the civil courts of the vicinage into the building, amongst other potential possibilities

Camden officials plan to hold a press conference to further discuss the project in the coming weeks.
