A New York City-born chain is expanding to New Jersey.

Located at 924 Bergen Ave. in , The Kati Roll Co. is set to begin welcoming customers July 1. To celebrate the new location, the concept will offer $5 rolls and $5 bowls July 16 for in-person orders.

Founded in 2002 by Kolkata native Payal Saha, the concept is known for its signature kati rolls. Developed in India, kati rolls are made-to-order wraps filled with spiced meats, paneer or vegetables.

The menu also features rice and salad bowls served with spicy mashed potatoes, lassi (traditional Indian yogurt smoothies) and freshly made spicy potato chips.

According to TKRC, it uses no pre-packaged food or sauces. All produce is fresh and all meats are , grass-fed, antibiotic free and hormone free.

After starting a franchise program in 2024, the brand has grown beyond its Greenwich Village roots to add two outposts in Texas (Dallas and Plano). Those joined the chain’s existing four sites in New York City and one in London.

On the Jersey side

According to TKRC, the upcoming spot in Jersey City will be a franchise site run by Jay Sorathiya.

Additional locations in New Jersey are slated to open before the end of the year. The chain did not provide specific details on where those restaurants will be located.

Following the grand opening in Jersey City, TKRC will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The space includes seating for 25–30 customers.

Commenting on the launch, Saha said, “I started this because I missed the kati rolls I grew up eating in Kolkata — I thought if I missed them this much, other people must too. New Jersey customers have been crossing the river to find us for years. It felt right to finally come to them.”

Her husband, executive chef and business partner, Anil Bathwal, touted the brand’s commitment to authenticity.

“Indian cuisine is complex — authentic flavors don’t come easy. Making fresh Indian food with real ingredients and real recipes, while scaling a brand, is genuinely hard. It’s taken us years to build a system that doesn’t ask you to choose between quality and consistency across geographies. You taste that difference in every bite,” he said.
