To help fight food insecurity in New Jersey, cannabis giant Curaleaf is kicking off an effort to support community-based organizations that are working to aid those in need.
Run through the multistate operator’s corporate social responsibility platform, Feed the Block will benefit 20 charities in 14 states, including the Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken and Trenton-based social services organization Mercer Street Friends.
Through Dec. 31, customers at the MSO’s retail locations in Edgewater Park, Bordentown and Bellmawr will have the option to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar. Curaleaf will then match a portion of those donations to raise money for charity, according to the company.
Launched in 2020, Feed the Block has raised nearly $372,000 for food banks, homeless shelters and nonprofits across the U.S.
This year marks the third time Curaleaf will partner with the Food Bank of South Jersey and second time it will team up with Mercer Street Friends. During the first year of the program, the company fundraised on behalf of the Borough of Bellmawr.
In a statement to NJBIZ, Raheem Uqdah, Curaleaf’s senior director of corporate social responsibility, shared, “We are thrilled to launch the fourth iteration of our food insecurity program, Feed the Block. Fundamental to our CSR platform, Rooted In Good, we seek ways to help our neighbors in need and demonstrate our commitment to the community.”
He went on to attribute the program’s growth to the generosity of Curaleaf’s customers and patients, saying, “We are hopeful that we can continue to make a positive difference in the fight against food insecurity for the local communities we serve.”
