With more people returning to dining out in the post-pandemic era, Doherty Enterprises Inc.-owned Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar had its most successful holiday fundraiser for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program in nearly a decade.
Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, 2023, the Allendale-based restaurant group’s eateries in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Georgia raised $247,662.59 in support of the cause — the most collected since 2016’s $267,838, according to a Doherty spokesperson.
Within New Jersey, Doherty’s three dozen locations raised $118,771 to further Toys for Tots’ mission of distributing new toys to as many local families as possible.
A longtime supporter of Toys for Tots, Applebee’s has contributed more than $5.2 million since 1998, according to Doherty.
To mark its 25th anniversary of the campaign, the casual dining brand launched several unique donation opportunities for customers, including an opportunity to be serenaded with a holiday carol from Applebee’s team members.
Besides being a way to demonstrate its dedication to local communities, the effort blends in “festive elements of fun” for guests, such as drink specials, gift bags and Breakfast with Santa events, said Doherty Vice President of Operations Kurt Pahlitzsch.
Doherty Enterprises Inc. was recently recognized for supporting the employees who work at its Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations in Florida following the destruction of Hurricane Ian. Click here to read more.
