Drivers in Cherry Hill and Pleasantville should be on the lookout for infrastructure work this summer as New Jersey American Water starts projects in both locations.
Pioneer Pipe Contractors Inc., a contractor for the Camden-based utility company, began work earlier this summer and expects to be done by the end of August.
Workers are upgrading 4,400 feet of aging 4- and 6-inch concrete water main with new 8- and 12-inch ductile iron main. The replacement will take place:
The company will also replace fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the route as well as any lead or galvanized customer-owned service lines as part of a statewide initiative to remove this type of material by 2031.
Beginning the week of Aug. 5, Pioneer Pipe Contractors will install approximately 3,000 feet of new 8-inch ductile iron main along Park Boulevard from Grove Street to Jefferson Avenue.
The company will also install meter pits at the curb area along the route where there are none. New Jersey American Water will contact customers to arrange an appointment to relocate existing meters from inside the property to the new meter pit.
Work is expected to be done by the end of September. A company representative confirmed that final street restorations will be completed in the fall of 2025.
New Jersey American Water cautioned resident and drivers to be on the lookout in both areas for traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns during work hours, which will take place weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Pleasantville and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Cherry Hill.
