A former Bank of America location in Union Beach is set to transform into another well-known establishment: a Starbucks.
The Doren Development project received approval during the Union Beach planning board meeting Aug. 28. Located at 1500 Union Ave., the site will accommodate a full café concept with a drive-thru situated on 0.74 acres.
The new store will rise at the traffic light, offering access from Route 36 North and South. It will include 17 parking spaces as well as outdoor patio seating. The project expects to break ground in the fourth quarter of this year.
Doren Development acquired the site in March.
While the existing Bank of America location already includes a drive-thru, plans call for replacing the current structure with a new, 2,465-square-foot building.
It’s the latest Starbucks project for Passaic-based Doren Development, which won approval in Totowa earlier in the summer to build a unique grab-and-go Starbucks location. The firm has four more Starbucks sites in the pipeline.
Last winter, the Seattle-based coffee giant made its debut in Monroe Township.
Starbucks did not return a request for comment regarding the number of employees the Union Beach location would support or its expansion in the area.
