Thea Energy highlighted the opening of its new Kearny headquarters in a Jan. 21 announcement.

As NJBIZ has reported, Thea Energy was founded in 2022. The company is a spin-out of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and Princeton University. The fusion technology company focuses on leveraging breakthroughs in stellarator physics toward the commercialization of carbon-free and abundant .

Located within Hugo Neu Corp.’s Kearny Point campus, the 15,000-square-foot space was designed and built specifically for Thea Energy’s work. Key features include:

  • Multiple labs for high-field magnet manufacturing and operation
  • Office space to support a team of more than 50 employees

The company says the new facility positions it to accelerate the rapid prototyping and testing of its core technologies, such as arrays of superconducting magnets.

“Our new space provides us with significant capabilities to build and test planar, programmable magnets made from high-temperature superconductors, the critical new element we are bringing to modernize the stellarator,” said Thea Energy co-founder and CEO Brian Berzin.

Over the next year, Thea Energy plans to double its workforce to support its mission. The company plans to add positions including highly skilled engineers, physicists, machinists and industry experts.

“The team is working tirelessly to create a winning fusion power plant architecture that addresses historical, limiting complexities of stellarator systems,” said Berzin. “This new facility allows us to continue to grow an industry-leading team, here in the country’s largest metropolitan area.

“We are looking forward to this important phase of development while at the same time engaging with our local community to solidify the region as a leader in fusion energy and cleantech commercialization.”
