For the leadership and staff of Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, the past few years have been … interesting. The hospital was near ground zero of the pandemic in Bergen County. Its CEO, Michael Maron, tested positive for COVID at a time when that diagnosis would strike fear into most people. But like all hospitals in New Jersey, Holy Name persevered and made it through.
Recent years have been kinder, as the hospital and Maron moved on and maintained its independent status. Then, last summer, Holy Name received a $75 million donation from the Douglas M. Noble Family Foundation of Paramus. The funds will go toward accelerating innovation and scientific discovery, advancing capital projects and supporting medical education. It was the largest donation ever to a U.S. Catholic hospital and the second largest to a hospital in New Jersey.
In this edition of NJBIZ Conversations, Maron talks about the lessons he and his staff took away from the pandemic, what the big gift will allow Holy Name to accomplish, and what it will take to survive and thrive in what has become a tough climate for health care providers.
