Jersey City Mayor James Solomon announced a four-part 2026 FIFA World Cup celebration series that will activate four wards of the city with free public events running from June through the tournament’s final in July.

The series is designed to turn Jersey City into a distributed fan hub during the World Cup, with events spread across major corridors and neighborhood commercial districts.

Each activation blends live match viewing with cultural programming, street-level festivals and small business engagement. The initiative aims to drive foot traffic and capture tournament-driven economic activity across the city.

The programming lineup includes:

• Flag Cities – June 12
  Ward E – Columbus Drive, Marin Boulevard to Washington Street
  Opening fan festival featuring large-scale programming, vendors and live match viewing tied to the regional World Cup kickoff window
• Bergen Square Egyptian Cultural Activation – June 21
  Ward C – Bergen Avenue corridor
  Community-centered cultural event aligned with Egypt vs. New Zealand, developed with local cultural partners and neighborhood groups
• The World on Central – July 10–11
  Ward D – Central Avenue corridor
  Two-day activation during the quarterfinals weekend, focused on driving customers to Central Avenue small businesses through street festival programming and watch events
• Around the World Watch Party – July 19
  Ward B – Claremont Avenue West Side
  World Cup Final day celebration featuring a “world village” style festival and public viewing experience for the championship match

The effort is supported through a mix of private sponsorship and public grant funding. Supporters include Jersey City Medical Center (RWJBarnabas Health), KRE Group and LeFrak, along with backing from the New Jersey Urban Enterprise Zone Authority (UEZA) and Choose New Jersey. All events are free to the public and designed to operate at no cost to taxpayers.

Showcasing the city

Organizers are developing programming alongside neighborhood organizations, cultural groups and special improvement districts.

Solomon noted Jersey City is home to more nationalities than almost anywhere in the United States. He described the World Cup as more than just a tournament in the city.

“It’s a reflection of who we are,” said Solomon. “These four, completely free celebrations will showcase our neighborhoods, drive customers to our small businesses, and give residents and visitors unforgettable opportunities to come together and celebrate the World Cup – at no cost to taxpayers.
