Jinya Ramen Bar plans to bring its contemporary Japanese dining concept to New Jersey through a new partnership with Doherty Enterprises Inc.

In a May 31 press release, the Allendale-headquartered restaurant group said it is teaming up with Jinya to grow the brand throughout the New York City-designated market area.

Launched in 2010, the California-based eatery is known for its specialty ramen made in long-simmered broths, Japanese-inspired tacos, rice bowls, curry and other small plate items. Jinya has since grown to over 50 restaurants in North America, with the only East Coast locations in Maryland, Florida and Washington, D.C.

Tomo Takahashi, Jinya’s chief executive officer and founder, described Doherty Enterprises as “the perfect partner to help us expand our footprint in this vibrant region,” citing the 38-year-old company’s “extensive approach and strong presence in their home market.”

With 130 restaurants across multiple states, Doherty Enterprises owns and operates popular establishments such as Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Panera Bread and Chevys Fresh Mex, as well as its own concepts: The Shannon Rose Irish Pub and Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas.

Tim Doherty, president and chief operating officer at Doherty Enterprises, called Jinya “a natural fit” for its portfolio.

“Jinya offers fantastic food, from their slow-simmered ramen to their incredible and unique small plates,” said Doherty, who also praised the concept’s “cool, modern yet warm environment” and “impressive support network for its franchisees.”

Jinya and Doherty Enterprises did not say if there is a particular area in New Jersey they are targeting for the first location.
