Journal Square Urby is another step closer to its expected spring 2024 debut, topping out at 25 stories – that’s 265 feet – in Jersey City.
Namesake developer Urby announced the final beam’s placement Sept. 5, signifying the completion of vertical construction on what will be a 317-unit apartment building located at 575 Pavonia Ave. at the corner of Pavonia and Summit Avenues.
The property will feature studio and one-, two- and three-bedroom residences. Planned amenities include an integrated lobby café, a gym with attached yoga studio and stretching area. The 25th floor will offer a roof garden with pool, work from home spaces, barbecue areas and a dog park with panoramic views.
In addition to the shared space sightlines, Urby says many residences will also offer views of downtown Jersey City, Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
Outside, Urby has commissioned a mural for the side of the building by Argentinian-Spanish artist Felipe Pantone.
Concrete designed the building while HLW serves as executive architect. Bureau Bas Smets, recently awarded a commission for the grounds of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, will design the outdoor spaces.
Urby is a joint venture between President and CEO David Barry and leading global developer Brookfield Properties. Last May, JLL Capital Markets arranged $88 million in construction financing for the project with a 10-year, fixed-rate loan.
Journal Square Urby marks the seventh location for the brand nationwide and the second in this Hudson County city: Jersey City Urby debuted in 2017 in the Harborside neighborhood.
In a statement, Barry said Urby was excited about the progress and looking forward to opening another location in the city.
“Journal Square Urby will offer the unique shared spaces and inspired design that define the Urby brand, while also creating an intimate boutique environment for residents to connect with one another and the culturally-rich neighborhood,” he said.
Beyond Jersey City, and since its debut in 2016, Urby operates additional properties in New York City, Harrison, Stamford, Newark and Dallas. Future developments are underway in Philadelphia, Miami and Washington, D.C.
