Krispy Kreme will soon make its long-awaited return to Ocean County.
Reportedly scheduled to open Nov. 12, the 4,000-square-foot store at 1900 Route 70 in Lakewood will make its doughnuts onsite and features a drive-thru window.
The shop will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. “Hot light” hours – when hot and fresh doughnuts are coming off the line – are 7-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. each day.
The upcoming shop is located in what was formerly a McDonald’s restaurant. It comes nearly two decades after the multinational doughnut and coffee chain last had a presence in Ocean County. A previous Krispy Kreme in Brick closed in 2005 after just two years in business, The Asbury Park Press reported.
A different franchise group will bring Krispy Kreme back to the region this time. It’s also the same team that owns the brand’s outposts in Paramus, Springfield, East Rutherford and Jersey City, according to JLL, the commercial real estate firm that represented the tenant.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme is billed as the home of the Original Glazed Doughnut. It’s also considered one of the most beloved and well-known sweet treat brands in the world.
It operates in 40 countries through its network of fresh doughnut shops, partnerships with leading retailers and a growing e-commerce and delivery business.
JLL Managing Director David Townes said his team is “thrilled to bring this beloved doughnut shop back to the neighborhood.”
At Town & Country Shopping Center, Krispy Kreme joins a tenant lineup that includes Home Depot and Value City Furniture.
