NJ Transit unveils $31M Lyndhurst station

Service set to start June 8

Officials gathered April 28 in to mark the new station, which is slated to begin service June 8.

The depot, funded by $30.9 million from the Federal Transit Administration, replaces the existing, century-old site. it is located just east of the current station. It was designed to replicate the historic style of the neighborhood.

Key features include:

  • Fully accessible according to the Americans with Disabilities Act, which the current station is not
  • Provides high-level platforms and new elevators, stairs and canopies
  • serves more than 800 weekday passenger trips
  • The will close once service begins at the new Lyndhurst station

 

NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri said the project is another step in the agency’s ongoing commitment to modernize its rail network and provide fully accessible facilities for all customers.

“By combining classic architectural elements with modern amenities, this new station demonstrates how thoughtful design can deliver long-term value to customers and the community,” said Kolluri.

Executive James Tedesco III said this project shows what’s possible when every level of government works together to deliver real progress for its communities.

“The new Lyndhurst station is a smart, forward-looking investment that improves mobility, strengthens our economy, and supports long-term growth across South Bergen,” said Tedesco.

Lyndhurst Mayor Robert Giangeruso stressed that the new station is poised to become one of the busiest transit hubs in Bergen County.

“This modern facility not only reflects our commitment to smart growth and – but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of our town,” said Giangeruso. “By improving accessibility and connectivity, we are laying the foundation for a more prosperous and connected Lyndhurst.”
