McCarter & English LLP’s Scott Kobler is being recognized for his efforts to support journalism in New Jersey.
The partner at the Newark-based law firm was recently named as the 2025 recipient of the Loretta Weinberg Award for Journalism Impact by Corporation for New Jersey Local Media. CNJLM gives the distinction to non-journalists who have made significant, lasting contributions to the state’s media landscape.
An attorney for nearly 45 years, Kobler has built a nationally regarded practice in health care, higher education and affordable housing finance at McCarter & English. As an advocate for nonprofit leadership, he has provided long-standing counsel to organizations focused on public broadcasting, responsible journalism, education, the performing arts and accessible health care for underserved communities.

Kobler’s efforts have helped sustain public broadcasting, enhance local news coverage and expand access to trusted public affairs programming statewide.
Established in 2022, the Loretta Weinberg Award honors the legacy of former State Sen. Loretta Weinberg. A trailblazer, Weinberg championed government transparency and accountability throughout her more than three decades of public service.
Kobler marks the fourth recipient of the honor. He will receive his award at the CNJLM’s annual Byrne Kean Dinner in November.
