What leadership traits have served you well? And on the flip side, what have you learned that tends to hold women leaders back?

Adaptability and resilience have been essential in my leadership journey. Navigating multiple roles throughout my career and with Woodmont Properties required a balance of strategic thinking and operational efficiency. What often holds women leaders back is the tendency to underestimate their value or hesitate to assert themselves in challenging environments. Learning to trust my expertise and advocate confidently for my ideas has been transformative.

What are some key strategies to help others achieve a more prominent role in their organization or career?

Building cross-departmental relationships is crucial. Understanding how different teams operate, aligning goals, and finding solutions to meet everyone’s needs fosters collaboration and visibility. I encourage others to pursue innovation and not shy away from challenging projects—those are often the ones that propel you forward.

What are the greatest challenges women in leadership experience? Are more challenges external or internal?

Both. Systemic biases can limit opportunities externally, while self-doubt and balancing career and family create internal challenges, especially when you’re one of the few women in a senior leadership role. Overcoming these challenges requires a strong support network, mentorship, and a commitment to self-advocacy. For me, embracing my cultural identity and authentic self has been a source of strength and perspective, enabling me to offer insights that foster innovation and drive inclusivity.

What valuable career lesson or lessons would you like to share with others?

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of real-time feedback and communication. Addressing issues promptly strengthens my team’s performance and morale. Open dialogue and celebrating achievements build trust and promotes cohesive teamwork toward a shared vision. Another key lesson is to embrace failure as a learning opportunity—each setback is a step toward growth.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Own your narrative. Your background, experiences, and perspectives are your unique strengths. Don’t wait for permission to lead—step into opportunities even if you feel only partially ready. Leadership is a continuous learning journey, and confidence grows with every challenge you overcome. Lean on and learn from others—including male leaders, but especially other women. Women should empower other women to lead. After all, we are all here because of a woman.

What is one quote or phrase you refer to when you need inspiration?

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” This quote reminds me that challenges are necessary for growth, and every obstacle is an opportunity to move forward with greater strength and wisdom.
