Mondelez Global is voluntarily recalling specific sizes of Ritz Cracker Sandwiches. The move comes after certain cartons were mislabeled as cheese variety but may contain peanut butter, a known allergen.
In a July 8 announcement, the East Hanover-based consumer packaged goods company said it initiated the recall after discovering that the film packaging rolls used to individually wrap products containing peanut butter “may contain defects due to a supplier error” and is taking corrective actions “to help ensure this issue does not recur.”
While the outer cartons feature correct labeling and include a “contains peanuts” advisory, the individually wrapped packs inside may have incorrect labeling indicating the cheese variety, Mondelez said.
Cartons containing only Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches are not affected by this recall, according to Mondelez. In addition, cartons containing either Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches or Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack with different best-by dates than those listed above are not impacted, the company said.
Mondelez has not received any reports of injury or illness. However, it urges consumers who have a peanut allergy to throw out the recalled crackers.
Customers may also contact the company at 1-844-366-1171, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for more information about the recall.
