New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is calling on state agencies to review how the recently signed One Big Beautiful Bill Act will impact the Garden State.

The sprawling encompasses tax, spending, immigration enforcement, energy and more. It also makes major changes to areas such as health care and social safety net programs.

Murphy signed Executive Order No. 393 July 23. The EO directs all state agencies to immediately review how the law impacts their budgets, operations and programs.

“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is a fiscal disaster that fails to deliver for working-class families in New Jersey and across the country,” said Murphy. “This law rips away health care from vulnerable children and families, guts food assistance, and raises costs for everyday Americans.”

Key things to know:

  • All state agencies are immediately directed to review the law and impacts on budgets, operations, programs, as well as services for residents
  • State agencies must submit a preliminary assessment to the governor’s office by Oct. 1, along with any related legislative measures they recommend the governor support during the current session
  • By Nov. 15, state agencies must provide a preliminary list to the governor’s office of any non-legislative measures recommended for consideration to address any adverse impacts of the legislation on their budgets, operations and programs – and on New Jersey’s residents
  • Governor’s office will review the preliminary assessments and recommendations and then coordinate any actions with state agencies
  • Governor may consider any additional legislation, gubernatorial measure and cabinet-level actions to the impacts
  • EO takes action immediately

“By signing this Executive Order, we are mobilizing to mitigate harm to New Jerseyans and planning to navigate new red tape from Washington, D.C.,” said Murphy.
