The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce announced Jan. 27 that Gov. Phil Murphy will deliver the keynote address at its Business Summit & Expo, being held March 14 and 15 at Harrah’s .

The event, which effectively replaced the Chamber’s annual Walk to Washington trip, is one of the biggest political and business on the calendar here in New Jersey, bringing together leaders and stakeholders from a range of sectors.

Murphy, who keynoted last year’s event as well, will deliver his remarks on the afternoon of the first day of the Summit, which features a two-day general session of discussions about how to boost the state’s economy.

The Chamber says it will offer the opportunity for business and government leaders to examine how to leverage the advantages of operating a business here in New Jersey, and explore key actions that are necessary to make the state’s business climate more competitive and attractive. Discussions will cover topics such as taxes and incentives, infrastructure, burgeoning industries, inflation, diversity, and the regulatory environment.

“The goal is to bring together subject experts from business, politics, and nonprofits to discuss the advantages of doing business in New Jersey and the challenges stifling New Jersey’s economy, and propose the actions needed to shift into a strong economic recovery,” said Chamber President and CEO Tom Bracken. “We’re looking for solutions.”

Those solutions will be presented to the state’s legislative leaders during a panel discussion on Day 2 of the Summit.

In addition to the speeches and panel discussion, the event will also feature a pair of networking receptions and a business expo on March 14 for New Jersey companies to showcase their products and services.

According to the Chamber, last year’s event drew more than 650 attendees and a huge turnout is again projected for this year, with participants expected to include a wide variety of business executives from large and small companies; state and local government leaders; representatives from trade groups, labor, academia, nonprofits, and the news media.

“We expect this to be the single largest business event in the state this year on a scale comparable to our Walk to Washington,” said Bracken. “There is a strong desire among business people in New Jersey to improve the state’s business climate, and to network. This event will provide a prime opportunity for both.”
