Attorneys from some of the top law firms and corporate legal departments in New Jersey will step up to the plate for a good cause this month.
The annual Battle of the Barristers is scheduled for June 18 in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield. This year’s tournament will bring together teams from:
Now in its 33rd year, the one-day softball tournament brings together teams from law firms and corporations to raise funds that help send inner-city children to summer camp at no cost through the Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund.
According to organizers, the initiative typically generates between $75,000 and $100,000 each year. All proceeds go directly toward providing children with free summer camping experiences.
Thanks to corporate sponsorships and donations from participating firms, Battle of the Barristers serves as the largest annual fundraiser for the Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund.
In addition to competing for the win, each team gets penalized for strikeouts, double plays, runs allowed and errors.
Roseland-based Lowenstein Sandler will host this year’s tournament. It kicks off at 11:30 a.m. June 18 with division and semi-final games.
A championship game will follow at 6 p.m.
In the event of rain, Battle of the Barristers will take place June 23, according to the firm.
Lowenstein Senior Counsel – and softball team leader – Karim Kaspar shared, “The tournament is not just about the numbers. It’s about the collective drive to create positive change in our communities.”
A 25-plus year participant in the fundraiser, Kaspar added, “At the end of the day, the real winners are the kids.”
Recent Battle of the Barrister champions include McCarter & English (2025), Brach Eichler (2024) and Genova Burns (2023). Lowenstein has taken home the title in 2014, 2010 and 1999.
